The Forest of Dean is one of the most distinctive areas of Britain having a seductive charm and character that is uniquely its own. The spectacular landscapes and stunning scenery have inspired crafts people, artists, inventors, poets, and playwrights, as well as the many visitors who return year after year. The Forest extends over 110 square kilometres of woodland and lies between the rivers Wye and Severn, in the western part of Gloucestershire, and on the borders of Wales and Herefordshire. The Stables - Located in the heart of the Forest and benefits from views of both the local woodland and open farmland.

LOCATION
The Forest of Dean is an area of outstanding natural beauty situated between the Rivers Wye and Severn. It has now become a popular location for film and TV crews including Star Wars, Atlantis and Doctor Who, to name but a few. There are opportunities to take part in activity sports such as canoeing, cycling or walking; visit areas of interest including Symonds Yat and Tintern Abbey or simply relax in some of the pubs and restaurants we recommend. We are happy to send you information on these and other highlights on request. We welcome pets too, so bring them with you so that you can explore the forest together.
HUT ON THE HILL
We have spent 12 months landscaping, renovating, and kitting out both the Shepherd’s Hut and adjacent stable. Both have full central heating; electricity and the Hut has a proper flushing toilet. A real luxury for a Shepherd’s Hut. There is a shower room with heated towel rail and all the luxuries you would expect from well-equipped accommodation.
There is also a beautiful hot tub in which our guests can relax while enjoying the panoramic views across open farmland and beyond.
In the adjacent heated 400-year-old stone stable there is space to store logs for the fire pit, dry outdoor gear, keep bikes, canoes or walking equipment and to take cover during poor weather. In addition, the stable has a utility area with an undercover terrace area for you to sit outside and take in the countryside while enjoying the views. There is a fire pit, BBQ, seating area, including a hammock.
If you are looking for all mod cons, including Wi-Fi, and want to party till dawn, this hut is not for you. However, if you just want to simply unwind, kick back and de stress in the most beautiful surroundings, within an area of outstanding natural beauty then get in touch. We will do everything we can to make your stay a very special one.
Your hosts live in the main house and will be around, should you need help or advice but will respect your privacy. You will be offered eggs from our own hens and ducks should you like some, and there are neighbourly sheep and a horse in the field next door for you to enjoy watching.
Dogs are welcome but we ask guests to let them sleep in the cosy stable rather than inside the Hut. Up to 2 dogs are welcome. There is a small meadow directly in front of the Hut where you can let your dog's run freely while you are around, and they can be walked directly into the Forest or across the fields to 2 pubs which we recommend.
THE FOREST OF DEAN
The area surrounding Lower Carterspiece is unspoilt and provides easy access to amenities by car only 2 miles away. You can walk through the forest for miles straight from the door, or to great pubs across the fields. The Forest of Dean offers so much in the way of places to visit, activities including cycling, walking, canoeing, Go Ape, Castle visits and much more. Your hosts will provide you with all the information about what is on offer when you book.
GETTING AROUND
A car is recommended for your visit; however, we can suggest a very reliable taxi service should you need it. Otherwise, for those of you who enjoy walking nothing is that far away. Supermarkets will deliver and we can arrange for your shopping to be placed in the Hut ready for your arrival.
